Cadillac: 86 El Dorado, steering wheel lock, sterring wheel

Question
Already had a non-op on my Cad since an accident on the right front a couple years ago.  Now the ignition key turns with no resistance/loose.  It is in the on position (fuel pump is running), and I disconnected the battery.  Steering wheel lock still works if the key is rotated back and removed.  My question - what part is broken and how hard is it to replace (how many hours?)  I'm a shadetree mech, have most tools, although possibly not a steering wheel puller.  Me and Murphy have met many times <g>
BTW, I need to sell the car ASAP.  Do you know if  its best to part it out, or sell it as is?  Other than the right front, the car is in very good condition.  If you don't know, thats fine.
Thanks for your help!  Doug

Answer
You could have a problem with the electrical portion of the ignition switch which is mounted under the dash on top of the steering column as there is a long metal rod that connects the ignition key portion (lock assembly) in the steering wheel with this electrical switch under the dash.

1. The electrical switch could be broken or loose.

2. The rod may have fallen off or loose.

3. the ignition lock where the ignition key inserts into may be faulty of which will require a sterring wheel puller and other SPECIAL TOOLS in order to access the lock assembly.
