Cadillac: 1995 Aurora, larry conger, mr joy

Mr. Joy,
I know that this is not a Cadillac, but I understand that this car has a Cadillac engine in it.  It is a four liter in size.  It is a 1995 Aurora.  This does not happen all of the time.  But sometimes the display will have straight line instead of numbers showing, the outside temp will start blinking, the engine temp will stop reading, and the transmition will go into the limp mode.  It will not change gears.  After letting it sit for a while it will start working again.
 I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.  For a long time now when you switch the car off.  The Gas pedal will make a knocking sound.  You can rest you foot on the pedal and feel a bumping.  After about fifteen seconds it will stop.  It has been doing this long before the probem with the transmition not shifting started.  While in the limp mode.  When you shift the gears, there is a hard bump.  It is almost like something hitting with a large rubber mallet.

QUESTION: WHAT display ?.

Has there been any mechanical work performed on the vehicle in the last few months and IF so, WHAT was repaired and or replaced ?.

Please elaborate in more deatil. Write me a BOOK as having TO MUCH information is a GOOD thing for me in order to help you. What you might think has nothing to do with your problem, Just may be the CLUE I am looking for.
