Cadillac: suspension 92 deville, air struts, air shocks

Question
-------------------------
Thanks so much, i contacted acdelco and they stated that the struts seem to be the right ones they suggested at it could be the springs?   THe car has only 67k on it, do you think it could be?  And if so is this costly and labor intensive, i know nothing about springs.  Thanks

Question -
Hello i have a 92 deville and a year ago i had 4 new acdelco struts put on my vehicle, and ever since then it does not seem to ride as smooth as what i would like a cadillac to ride, the mechanic insists he placed the smooth ride struts on my car, on the bill it only says rear's are air struts, and that is where i seem to be having the most problem when you hit a good bump the rear seat passenger really feels it,  the air pump i hear goes on and off when load changes it seems to be working correctly,
this car did not have the factory self adjusting struts for that year,  do you think if i got 4 new struts at a dealer there would be much difference in ride quality?  thanks

You have a couple of possibilities:

1. the air shocks are NOT soft ride shocks.

2. The air shocks have to much air in them.

3. the box that they came in may have been MIS-LABLED.

4. Your mechanic put on GENERIC brand shocks and told you
  they are GM factory replacements.

I am NOT implying that your mechanic may be mis-leading you, But there still are many repair facilities and people who are NOT honest when it comes to msking a profit.

I would CALL a GM dealers Parts Department and ASK the price of replacement shocks and what COLOR they should be. If in DOUBT, Take it into the Service Department and let them see if the shocks are genuine GM brand and that the air pressure is set correctly.

AGAIN, I am NOT accusing your mechanic of ANY dis-honesty in any manner and or form. It may be just a simple MISTAKE.

Answer
The AIR PRESSURE in the rear AIR SHOCKS/STRUTS may be to high and the sensor that regulates the amount of air in them may need to be adjusted or the springs could be weak. Eitherway you will need to have a service facility do the diagnostics.
