Cadillac: cadillac pass key anti-theft system, theft deterrent system, cadillac eldorado

Question
I own a 90 Cadillac Eldorado with a pass key theft deterrent system. It seems to be malfunctioning. The message center keeps saying "Starting Disabled" "pass key theft deterrent" "wait 3 minutes". It has done this in the past and we have waited 3 minutes and it started. Now it says it each and every time and will not start. I have "cleaned" the contacts on the keys,as the owners manual says, but no luck. Can I bypass this system? Do you have an idea of what might be happening? or will I have to spend 4.5 million at the caddy dealer to repair? Thanks for your time..... Wes

Answer
Hi Wes,

Yes it can be by-passed. However, I cannot tell you how to do it as I have no way of knowing if you are the REGISTERED OWNER of the vehicle.

I am afraid you will have to seek professional help from a dealer and or POSSIBLY a lock smith. I have NEVER tried a LOCKSMITH but if you have towing insurance such as AAA they will re-imburse you for a key that was accidently locked in your vehicle. Checked with your towing service information as to a key locked in the vehicle and you can't get in due to the doors being locked.

Even if you tow it to any reputable repair facility they will askfor PROOF of OWNERSHIP and CHECK it to be sure you are the registered owwner.

If I just gave out the information, I could be charged as an accomplise to stealing vehicles.

I hope you see my dilema.
