Cadillac: 2000 DTS brakes, rotor surface, auto parts store

Question
Tom,
I have a 2000 DTS with 35000 miles. I am told I need new brake pads on the front wheels.  I have two questions:
1. Is it reasonable to have to replace pads after only 35K miles?
2. If the rotors are not warped or scored, should I have them turned?  Do you know what the shop manual recommends?

Many thanks for your help.

Answer
1. 35,000 miles out of a set of brake pads is about right.

2. The factory recommends having the rotors TURNED
(machined) to a smoothe finish of where the brake pads
   contact the rotor surface.

Professionally and on my personal vehicles I buy NEW rotors. Theey are NOT usually very expensive.

Call a local auto parts store(s)and ASK for a price for 2 new rotors for your YEAR, MAKE and model of vehicle.
