Cadillac: Hood release, most newer cars, emergency cable

Question
The hood release is not working on my `85 Cadillac.  How can I release the hood in order to secure the clamp so that this doesn`t happen again?

Answer
Well, if it is not working then that means most probably the cable is broken from the lever to the mechanism somewhere.  If it is broken anywhere near the handle, or at the handle you can cut part of the protective sleeve and metal sleeve off until you find the part after which it is broken.  Once you've found this grab some pressure pliers and clamp on to the cable and give it a good tug and it should up.
Unfortunately it might be broken somewhere other than near the handle.  It might be broken somewhere inside the engine compartment.  Also, you might want to check if near the handle there is a spare emergency cable, I know my Fiero has one just in case the main one goes bad.  If it does not then you will have to access it from below the car and you should be able to see it in front of the radiator and A/C condenser, and you might be able to try the same method I mentioned but at that part of the cable nearest to the locking mechanism.  Since it is an older car there should be decent space to work with underneath.  Most newer cars are impossible to do such maneuvers.

Hope it works out.
