Chevrolet: 2001 Chevy Cav. Battery Problem, chevy cav, battery problem

Question
My car from time to time started not turning on when I turned the key.  I would hear a "click" sound but nothing else would happen. No lights would come on at all.  Then I would simply move the battery and try the car again and it came on right away like normal.  This is starting to happen more frequently now. Every time I turn the car off and try to start it, I get nothing. No lights come on inside the car and the car won't start. I have to re-position the battery and try to start the car again. Sometimes it takes a few try until it seems I get the battery just right. I have no other problems other that this.  What do I need to do to fix this issue?

Answer
Hello Karen,

Your battery has two wires leading to it: a red one(positive), and a black one(negative). The positive wire(the red one) probably has a ton of corrosion on it. This happens with ALL cars. However, when people take their car to the shop for an oil change or repair, etc., the mechanic normally cleans off this corrosion by simply disconnecting the positive side of the battery and sanding and/or wire-brushing the positive battery terminal and positive wire's battery clamp.
The corrosion does not conduct electricity, so when you try to start your car, there is not enough flow in the line to turn over the car, only enough to tease the starter motor. When you shift the battery, the wires on the battery twist on the battery terminals slightly, scraping off a little corrosion and creating a better connection, which is sometimes just enough to do the trick.
Here's my suggestion: Remove the positive wire from the battery and clean off the corrosion from the wire and the battery's positive terminal. Apply some anti-corrosion gel or spray, then re-attach the battery wire. Now that there's no resistance in the line, your car should start every time.
