Chevrolet: 2000 IMPALA ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, head lamps, fog lights

Question
DOME LIGHTS DON NOT WORK, WHEN TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS ARE ON THEY FLASH LIKE THE HAZARDS ARE ON DIMMLY. IF YOU UNPLUG HEAD LAMPS SOME OF THE PROBLEMS GO AWAY.

Answer
Paul,
I feel for you. I bought a 2001 Impala earlier this year to go to work in so I wasn't paying for fuel for my 1 ton, and so far it has been an electrical nightmare. I had problems with my turn signals, and it turned out to be a problem with the fog lights and a bad connection to the left front headlight. (The service engine soon light came on and it threw a code for low voltage to the L.F. headlight.) The fog lights required a new ECM to fix, the old one wasn't recognizing them all of a sudden. GM has had some pretty bad problems with the electrical in the early style Impalas, so what it boils down to is this... Check the internet for recalls and se if there are any for anything electrical for your car. Check to make sure you don't have any corroded connections to the fog lights or the headlights, check your flasher and relay. Other than that, you'll probably have to take it to the dealer or repair center. I had mine in to the dealer four times in the first month I bought it.
