Chevrolet: 99 Chevy 3.1L rocker arm adjustment, cam lobe, rocker arm

Question
Hi Roger,

I read a few of your answers on this subject and now I'm confused. I thought these engines had none adjustable valves and you simply tighten the rocker arm bolts to 22 ft/lbs. Is this correct? My daughter's car is making rocker arm noise and I plan to pull the valve covers and retorque the bolts.

Any help would be appreciated.
George

Answer
George;
Hi you are talking about shaft valves and yes you do toqure those type down,  like my profile shows I do the older models but if you do not have the shaft type than you would adj. them  like hyd. valves. too tight will burn them out or the lifter or cam lobe or rod, valve spring, etc.
