Chevrolet: Tranny problem, cotter pin, tyler tyler

I have a 79 El Camino 231 v6 , the problem is it was working ok then I stopped for gas and now it won't shift into 3rd gear.
What fell off?

    HEA - why do you say something fell off. it could have been the linkage arm or just the cotter pin could have fallen out.You will have to pick it up and check the linkage for any missing parts, I hope that the arm did not snap off on the inside, but if it did it is not that hard to repair. ok, as long as your clutch and presshure plate are all ok.
