Question
i have a 69 vette with a 350 eng with auto trans. it has started to tap, the tapping gets faster as the RPM go up. My friend said it may be loose. Can you tell me if loose how to fix it or if you think it it is something different

Answer
Mike;
HI well you  should have a hyd. cam in it  unless you have a 365 or up in horse power. if not  than what you will have to do is  first gewt a set of valve cover gaskets. than do one side at a time, and if you do not have tappet covers it can get a bit messy but it is nothing that some gunk will not take away. with the motor warm you will have to take a socket / rachet and do one at a time -loosen it slowly (the tappet)till it will clack than turn it back in to tighten it slowly as it could stall but thats normal, turn it in till it stops clacking ! ok wait about 5-10 seconds  than  turn it in 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn more - no more than that -it will do damage if it is to tight / and do every one the same way. than replace the gasket and do the other side than clean off the oil . than its done than I would change the oil and filter  add some 30 wt. oil and a can of stp. to it.  ok
