Question -
Last night , my 1995 camero z28 was idling in my neighbors driveway for about 15 minutes.  i got back inside and drove it five houses down.  The "check gauges" light was on and so i looked at the temp gauge and it was in the red.  when i parked in my drive there was steam coming out from the hood.  I opened the hood and ( looks like a pressure valve)  was blowing steam like crazy.. it was dark out so i just left it.  Now it's morning and i've got to decide what to do.
Is there anything i can check for?  should i tow it or drive it to a car repair?

Make sure your radiator fans work.

Check your fluid level with the dipstick to the left.

Worst case scenario, you might have warped your heads.

Best case scenario, your rad fans need replacing or you were just very low on fluid.

Answer
Pop the hood, start the car. You should be able to hear the fans turn on anywhere from 3-5 mins after you start the car.

Check the rad fluid level first with the dip stick reservoir located beside the battery to the left.

Or when the car is dead cold, open the rad cap and see if the fluid is all the way to the top.

If the rad is full and the fans are coming on, then your thermostat is bad.

Let me know how it goes.
