Chevrolet: 99 Chevy Cavalier temperature gauge, engine light, ets light, chevy cavalier, temperature gauge

Question
My 99 Cavalier just went over 130,000 miles and within hours,
my RPMs started jumping up on its own while I was in cruise
control. It did the same thing when I was in control. Then the
temperature gauge went all the way to the left, back to normal,
and then back to the left.

I changed the spark plugs. Today the RPMs aren't reving, but I'm
getting a jump, or jerky feeling. The temperature gauge went to
the left, and then the ETS Off light and check engine light came
on. Is this my transmission? Temperature Gauge? I'm mystified!

Can you give me an answer? I can't find any info on gauges
going to the left!

Hi - I would have it put on a computer to see what codes come up. It could be a sensor or a loose wire or the computer it self. if the gauge is jumping to the left ,it is not getting juice at the time it does that so it could  even the gauge . this is why it should be checked to see if any codes come up. Have you checked the coolent .
