Chevrolet: 1997 Cavalier starts then dies right away, computor, auto theft

Question
Hello,

I have a 97 Cavalier 2.2 MT.  The car will turn over and then a second later die.  After takeing it to a shop they said the auto theft is kicking in and I should replace the ignition switch, ignition lock cylander and the Cluster.  I'm trying to make sure they aren't just trying to take my money as the job cost's around 1K to do.  The error code pulled is DTC P1629.  Will replaceing all this relly solve the problem?  Also if I replace the lock cylander and switch myself will I run into any issues.

Answer
HI Jacob;
        well first off if the computor told you that the switch is not working than that is where there trouble is, and as far as doing it yourself , you will need a wheel puller and be carefull with the air bag , etc. if you never have taken off a wheel or replaced a switch , I do recomend that you have some good help and all the right tools to do so as it is not a matter of removing a nut and the wheel pops off,etc.I would  have the shop that is telling you that it is the switch to be shure that it is ,just that and if not will they do the rest for what you paid for as that is what thay said it is. for them to Guarentee the job at the price that that give to you . OK
