i have a 65 elco with a 4 bolt main 3-50, rv cam, eldelbrock intake, 600 cfm edelbrock carb, hei distributor, mini starter, and flowmasters i can get the car to start but as soon as i put it in gear it dies out. its a fresh 3-50, i checked for vacume leaks and couldnt find any but then again im not a professional.i broke down the carb and intake to retouque it at 25 ft lbs. everything is new except the carb its about 4 months old with only a few miles on it from my previous engine. i might not have calibrated the valves correctly but i think it would still at least stay on.
if you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

A El-Cm, Iam jelous, I never had one but I wanted one, well you get the engine to start but not run, is it getting fuel ? and what is the dist set at. also what are the valves set at. did you adj. the valves with it running ?
and if yes at what as is it a solid cam, if it is a hyd. the valves should be only in a 1/2 turn when setting them while running.And if solids you must do the valves on the hi spot of the cam for each valve when cold adj. them. I find it a lot better to do when running, if you think it could be the valves just take the valve covers off and with a socket turn each nut 1/2 turn back as to loosen each one 1/2 a turn and do every one than try it again and if it runs re- set every valve when its running at what ever setting that cam is.If the valves are too tight it could do what you have going on with it now. try that ok and let me know how you make out ok

its a solid cam roger, i think the settings are ok but ill check again. if it still does not fix my problem what else do u think it might be. thanks for the help. i cant wait to get my Elco going.
Answer IS the dist in right on the no.# 1 cyld. ? and is the timming set right I dont know the specks of it but it must be at least 4-to-6 atdc right ? I bet that it is a real simple thing thats wrong with it as when starting up a engine that was worked on it allways is a little thing, Iam
thinking that there is nothing wrong with this engine right ?
