Chevrolet: my 88 nova and 2 problems, coolant level, head gasket


Question
my theromstat looks like is going...taking to much coolant out of my reserve tank. is it the thermo?
the needle is running hotter than ususal plus the fan kicks on..on time too...


problem too...

(maybe cause its cold out now)

my gas looks like i got a leak. 150 is usually halfway ...well this week 99 miles...odd eh?

fuel filter? or pump? can i get the pump tested?

we clean the carb and put on a new air filter...

Hi Jon, #1 there is no reason for coolant level to go down, unless there is a leak, it may be a head gasket starting to fail, if it is a head gasket and the coolant is going into the oil it will cause serious engine damage, you should have a mechanic take a look at it. #2 Sure you can have the pump tested but a bad pump or bad filter would not cause it to burn more gas. If the car is running good and there are no leaks maybe it just needs a tune up. I hope this helps you if you need more help just let me know. Regards, Keith.
