Question -
I have a 1989 beretta 2.8 v6. It stalls, after it is warm, when I release the clutch when coming to a stop. Short of buying a scan tool, are there any known cures for this so that I don't have to spend a lot of money?
Answer -
Hi Mike, there is a way to get the trouble codes from your car without a scan tool. Buy A Haynes manuel on your car, there are easy to follow instructions on how to read the trouble codes. In the meantime the most probable cause of your car stalling is the EGR valve, it was A very common problem with the 2.8 engine. I hope this helps you, if you need more info just let me know. Regards, Keith.
Question-
I thought that I could check the EGR by squezzing the vacume diaphram with my finger. If the engine tries to stall when I do this, but resumes normal operation when I release the diaphram, the EGR is supposed to be good. Is there any other way to test it? There are no trouble codes stored either and the engine light never turns on anyway, unless, of course it stalls!

Answer
Hi Mike, other than a scan tool there is no other way to check it. How does the car run when its idleing? make sure there is vacuum to the map sensor. Before you start spending money on sensors that are not faulty, it may be cheaper to have it put on a scanner to point you in the right direction. Let me know what you find. Regards, Keith.
