Chevrolet: 98 Chevy Cavalier, 2.2 4cyl, chevy cavalier, egr valve

Hello. I have a problem with my daughters car. It seems that the car stalls out when you put it in reverse and give it gas. It doesnt seem to do this in forward but she claims the car has died on her. Now I have put in plugs, wires, and new coil packs. Different mechanics have said that the EGR valve needs to be replaced. What does this valve actually do.

  I thought that I told you this one allready ??
The EGR valve in a simple term , burns up gases that are sent back into the engine so it re burns anything left over, some times they can be cleaned but yours is elect. and I would be carefull in doing so. OK
