Hi expert! I have a question on cars that i'm quite interested in and wondering if you can answer me. Can you explain to me how automation has changed the face of today's labor force in the Canadian Manufacturing sector. Will automation put an end to old world craftsman as we now know it to be? Thank you!

HI  SUE
Well as far as the U.S.A. goes  I thought  it was gone allready.
As now no one rebuilds parts anylonger like I did in the 60s it is now only parts changers, no more mechanics only parts changers and half of them do not speak english.
The ROBOTS are now doing all of the work and the computors do the caliabrating so I think it will soon die out and be a lost craft forever.its real sad ..
bye bye.

Answer
well now days the parts are made to last a bit longer and do not need the type of service as they did years ago, so as far as repair men go there is less demand as there are no parts to be rebuilt, and as far as big factory production - it is easy for robots to make the items in the long run - as no lunch breaks no injuries or lost time so the machines make the parts and they can put out in large amounts and with out any shop talk just production, and when the part does -or if it does break it will just be replaced not rebuilt, as it is cheeper all ways around so the big guys say the heack with the craftsmen ,we don't need them .The new way is to faze out the repair man and introduce the robot as automation is the new thing make a part that will last and do it the cheepest way and the fastest way and  to replace if need be just as fast. As if you took your car in for a gas problum and you were told you need a carbarator
for it , years ago you would choose a new one or you could have it rebuilt, so now it might be there for a day or two waiting for parts, etc. [as time is money ] but today you will be told you need a new carbarator , thats it and you will have it fixed the same day as it will be replaced ,thats it as most of them do not even have a adjustment on them as everything is sealed , so off with the old and on with the new thats it.
so in the long run it all comes down to MONEY how to do it the fastest and the cheepest and with out any proublums, so
if there are no people doing the work how can there be any problums and if the machine breaks replace it..as with a human doing the work by hand you can feel the parts with your hand and work with it , become part of the job and really get into the work , care in what you are doing and be proud of what you have done, and enjoy the outcome of the finished product. But not a robot.well I hope I helped You.
