Chevrolet: Wiper Switch, torx screws, rainx

Question
Thank you very much!  Is the switch the first thing I should try preplacing?

And one more before I tackle it (and I haven't looked at them yet)..is there much to taking off the two plastic covers?  Do they just snap together or are there screws attaching them or what?

Thanks again...

Good Morning!

A single lady in our church has a 2003 Malibu and said yesterday that she was on a trip and went through a rainnstorm.  When she came out of it, she could not turn her wipers off.  She can change speeds, but can't get them to go off.  To keep from burning the motor out, I removed the fuze and told her to put some rainx on the winshield until we could fix it.

I figure it is the switch, but I have never taken apart one of those on the column.  Is that something easy, hard?  (I've swapped the engine in my truck in my garage, so I'm not too afraid to tackle it.

Is there special tools that I prob won't have?  Is there a way to get pictures?

What would you advise?

Thanks!

It could be the switch but it could also be the circuit board on the motor(if it has one, not all do).
The switch is not hard to replace.
Remove the top and bottom plastic steering column covers. There are 2 torx screws holding the switch on.

Answer
If you just want to replace parts until it is fixed, then yes, replace the switch first.
There are 2 or 3 screws on the bottom cover that hold it to the column. Remove those 1st and then unsnap the lower cover from the upper cover. There may be 2 more screws holding the top cover onto the column( some have them and some dont).
After you get the covers off, you will see the 2 screws holding the switch on.
