Chevrolet: Air conditioning, freon 12, ac components

Question
1983 Camero Z28.  I bought a kit to retro fit my AC unit that uses Freon 12.  The kit consists mainly of adaptors for the high and low pressures valves.  If I now add the new refrigerant 134a, will it cause a problem with the seals or gaskets or O rings etc. used for the Freon 12?  Is the 134a compatable with all of those items so that I will not have a problem with the refrigerant attacking some of these items?  Before I add the new refrigerant, I want to be sure that it will not harm any of the components.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
You dont have to worry about the R134a hurting any of your AC components unless they have a problem now, like a worn compressor, because the R134a works on a much higher pressure. You must also do the retrofit correctly. You need to evacuate ALL of the remaining R12 from the system and put around 30" of vacuum on the system for 15-30 minutes. Then you have to add oil to the system and recharge it with the correct amount of R134a. This takes alot of special equipment to do.
