Dodge: Fuel Filter for 1997 Dodge Dakota V8 4x4, vacuum leak, dodge dakota

Question
My Dodge Dakota had been stalling out a lot when I take my foot of the gas pedal.  Auto Zone has been telling me that I cant change the fuel Filter without changing the fuel pump.  I would just like to know if that is true.  I dont really want to spend the money at a dealership.  If you could please let me in on a little secret on how to find the problem...please let me know.  Thank you very much

Answer
Brandon,
This is true, but don't spend the money on a fuel pump just to change the filter.Have you cleaned the throttle body?It could be a vacuum leak at the throttle body or intake manifold.Have you noticed the engine light coming on?Although with a fuel related issue it probably won't.
