Dodge: 96 Dodge Dakota 3.9V6 120,000 miles w/cat. converter, vehicle speed sensor, oxygen sensor

Question
Check engine light has come on and code shows oxygen sensor malfunction, but I don't have a loss in mpg so i suspect there is another problem and the computer is defaulting to oxygen sensor. I haven't gotten in to clean the throttle body yet, but it's on my list of things to do this weekend.  How much do you know about speed/distance sensors?  I know it can also cause stalling and won't send a code even if it is screwed up, so long as it sends some kind of signal.  I also have some shifting issues at times(wont't readily shift from 1-2, rpms go up to 2600 and then will shift) and i know the speed/distance sensor also sends signals to the torque converter.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
If the oxygen sensor is the reason the engine light came on i would recommend changing it.The vehicle speed sensor has a magnetic pick up on the end of it that sends a pulse to the p.c.m.If this was the problem the light would be on because it is also a sensor.
