Dodge: Engine Life, preventive maintence, changing oil

Question
Hi, what is the average life for an engine in miles? I've heard anywhere from 160,000 to 300,000. What happens then, a new engine is needed or the old one rebuilt? And when a new engine is put in, how does the mileage on th dashboard get reset?

Answer
Most engines will last about 250, to 300 thousand miles. Depends on how well the engine is taken care of. Changing oil, and preventive maintence on the engine will make it last a long time. As for a new engine or rebuilding it, that all depends on the price. Most of the time you can buy a new engine for the same price if you rebuild the engine. This all depends on the cost. As for the mileage getting reset, 9 times out of ten, they dont even bother with changing the mileage, they normally will just record it, when they change out a new engine. Hope this helps,, and thanks..
