Dodge: Dodge Caravan, dodge caravans, dodge caravan

Question
Hello, I'm considering buying a 1994 to 1998 Dodge, Plymouth or Chrysler mini van to use as a second car. I realize that buying an older vehicle I can expect some problems, minor ones aren't a problem for me, nothing is perfect, and I am pleased with the service I get at my local Dodge dealer on my 1994 Ram Truck. I am concerned about the following major items:
Transmission; Seems like the 'Grand' or extended vans with the 4 speed OD trans are the ones to avoid, right?
Engine; I have seen countless vehicles like these smoking excessively from oil burning, which I think was a valve guide problem. Which V-6 should I look for? I don't think I want a 4 cylinder.
Thanks for your help,
Duane

Answer
Duane,
I wouldnt buy anyone of these vans, the transmissions have a tendency to slip on the Dodge Caravans, and they also burn oil. The Plymouth do almost the same thing. I would buy a good used Ford Van, with a nice v6. I wouldnt monkey around with Mopar products..
