Ford: 93 Ford Ranger 3.0 V6, vacuum leaks, fuel mixture

Question
Hey. I've got a 93 ranger and when driving runs fine till driving down the highway for maybe six miles and it will then start to miss and lack power. I've put the code reader on it and it brought up a mass airflow code and a ignition control module code. When putting my hand near the coil it shocks me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks KW

Answer
Hello,

I would suspect the ignition module as they commonly fail when hot.

Check your MAF and see if the fine wires have any dirt on them. Clean with a carb spray and toothbrush, but be very careful= wires are fragile and expensive.

Check for vacuum leaks and check fuel pressure and spark plugs.  You should not get easily zapped near the coil unless you are wet, or spark is findining you easier than the plugs (ie: bad plugs, wiresa, fuel mixture)

Check all these things and test drive before condemming the module.
