Ford: 2006F150 door lock, aircraft mechanic, mechanical background

Question
The passenger door lock on my 2006 F150xl was damaged by vandals. Now the key will not work. (ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS NOT INSTALLED).
My question is can I replace this lock myself? I have a mechanical background (aircraft mechanic.)
The dealer quoted a price of $300 to $900 to R&R the lock!!!
It my understanding that the key re-programming is an issue here.

Hello,

You can purchse the door lock from Ford ($80?) or aftermarket, then take it and your key to a locksmith to have the lock match the key($40). then remove the door handle and replace the lock.  There is a spring clip that holds the lock cylinder in.

Providing there is no damage to the handle, paint, body or internal mechanism, you could get away with as little as $100
