Ford: Antifreeze leak in the cab, antifreeze leak, ford f 150

Question
Hello.  I have a 1986 Ford F-150 I bought 4 months ago.  The truck has been nothing but headaches but that has mainly to do with starting.  I seem to have fixed that with a new battery and starter.  My issue now is that today antifreeze starting leaking into the cab passenger side.  We're not talking a drop here and there Im talking a good pint or so.  This has happened one time only before but that was over 2 months ago.  I was told that is where the heater core is located and that my heater core must be going bad or there is a leak thereabouts somewhere.  My heat still works fine even when this happens, thought i turn the heat off when this has happened.  Any ideas what might be the problem?  I dont want to invest much more money into this so I would also like to know if this is something i can deal with and still drive around or is the "shit about to hit the fan" and maybe i should thing about either a cheap fix if possible or selling?  Thank your so much for your input!

Answer
Hello,

This sounds like the heater core for sure.
The job is finiky and can be a bit costly if you have air conditioning.

A temporary option, is to by-pass the heater core by routing the heater hose back to the engine until the repair can be done.

You will have no heat and windsheild may fog up more.

I wouls also suggest that you find a reputable shop and ask for a full going over to see if there are more headaches on the way, and what the maintenance and repairs may cost.
look at your situation and see if it is better to keep or sell.

just a suggestion.
