Ford: 91 ford ranger reverse problems, rear brakes, transmission shops

Question
My 91 ford ranger has problems going in reverse.  It acts like there is a brake on when you try to back up.  Some body told me it is a stuck valve body or solinoid, Could you please tell me about how much this repair costs and what parts I should ask for.

Answer
Hi,

I am assuming this is an automatic.

If the problem is not with  the rear brakes. then you are looking at a rebuilt or used transmission.

Prices vary and there is a lack of very good transmission shops around, so get the advice from 1 or 2 of the local shops on who they would use.
