Ford: 94 mercury sable waterpump, mercury sable, waterpump

One of the nuts loosened the stud. Now I can't get the nut off the stud and the stud is to long to pull out to get the waterpump out. What can I do to get the nut off? I sprayed W-D 40 on the nut then tried to hold the stud with vise grips and turn the nut, but this didn't work. Please help.

I cannot picture this application at the moment, but , are you certain that the nut is removeable? or is it actually part of the stud.

Either way, i suspect that the stud will have to be revoved to remove the water pump.  Most likely coming out with the pump, or by raising or lowering the engine.  Otherwise, i doubt the pump will slide over the end of the stud.
