Ford: 81 ford f150, speedometer drive, ford f150

i just picked up a 81 ford f150 i belive is the 4.9L straight six with a 4 speed on the floor. ( sorry my spelling is par at best )
my question is, is this the stock engine, and would it be hard and spendy to and or possible to turn it into a automatic 4 speed or 5 speed with out changing the engine?

Yes this is a stock option engine and transmission.
To change to an automatic, you would need a transmission, transmission cooler (if radiator doesn't have one, you can get an aftermarket one), steering column and pedal assembly.

You may also need a different driveshaft, speedometer drive or sender, and crossmember.

As for price?

All depends on what is out there and what the seller can get for it all.


I have, in the past , picked up everything for less than $400 CANADIAN.
