Ford: 90 t-bird super coupe, hydraulic accumulator, abs pump

Question
QUESTION: hello. i was wondering since the other ford mechanic is gone and i need an answer soon if you could help me. i have a 1990 thunderbird super coupe with the electronic abs system and for the past two weeks my emergency brake light along with my anti-locking brake light come on at the same exact time and my brakes almost lock, they get to the point where i must use a good amount of force for the brakes to work. i am not sure how to tell if it is the Hydraulic accumulator  or if it is a problem with the pump itself. i have already replaced the anti-locking relay, and that seamed to help for about 3 days and then it started happening again. any information or advise would be nice. thank you for your time Alexa.

ANSWER: LEt's see... if replacing the relay helped for a couple of days than it started messing up again I would check the abs pump for a short...(This is provided you have checked everything else first... Brake fluid level and condition, brake pads, rotors, calipers, vacume lines, etc...) is the pedal hard or soft... cause it seems like you have air in the lines or low on fluid... (The only time the "Brake" light somes on is if you are low on fluid or the e-brake is not fully released...) Check those out and let me know... (I can probably get you the pinpoint test for the abs pump if needed...)

QUESTION: ok i have checked everything but their are no vacum lines going to the pump itself..(brand new rotors and pads all around). now when i am driving both lights will come on and the brakes will "jam" but sometimes if i hold my foot on the pedal long enough both lights wil go off and the brakes will be fine. other times they will "jam" and if i turn the car of then turn the ignition on it will "rest"..i was wondering if it might be the presure switch? or something along that line that could be trigering it to happen.

Answer
Sorry for the delay.. This one is beginning to stump me.. it is hard to diagnose some of these cars without seeing them ... one other thing to check for the abs is the wheel speed sensors and the "Tone rings" (the rings on the rotors that have teeth on them) they tell the abs computer how fast each wheel is going and if there is a variation (Front to rear or side to side) than the abs engages to try and keep all 4 of the wheels going the same speed... (It could be the sensor itself or the wiring going to the sensor...) Hope this helps... have a good night...
