Ford: 1994 Ford Escort, upper column, door switch

Question
James,
I own a 1994 Escort, never had any problems with it, but lately when you turn it off and have the door open, the open door alarm beeps. I can't find any door switch that might be stuck. I think it is related to the ignition switch, but I'm not sure. I gave the car to my 16 year old and would like to fix this for him. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Answer
If you have the door open does the door indicator illuminate as well Scott? if the light works properly then id probably say that you are dealing with a key in ignition sense issue. You will need to remove the lower and upper column shrouds and inspect then you will see one wire kind of on the side where the key goes in see if it all looks good then if all is well remove the tumbler and inspect the tumbler where the key goes you may need a new tumbler. if you require any more assistance get back to me.
