Ford: F-250 Shimmy after hitting pot-hole, wheel bearings, suspension bushings

Question
Sir,
I have an 2002 F-250 extended cab 4x2 that runs and rides great until I hit a pot-hole.  Then it shimmy's almost uncontrollably until I stop.  Once I come to a complete stop and then take-off again; there is no problem.  That is, until I hit another pot-hole.  Any idea what the problem is.

Thanks in advance.

Very Respectfully
George

Answer
George, it sounds like you definitely broke something, or got something out of place.  The first thing I would do is look at the wheel and the suspension bushings around the wheels and make sure that nothing looks different from the other side of the truck.  Then I would "jack" the truck up on the side that seems to be giving me the problem.  I would then place one hand on the top of the tire, and one hand on the bottom of the tire.  I would then "push and pull" looking for play in the tire.  (basically, you are going to check and make sure that the wheel bearings have not blown out)  If you do this, and do not notice too much play (there should be very little play) then you are going to have to take the tire off and look at the brake caliper and rotor.  You will be looking for grooves in the brake rotor or pads that have gotten "misaligned."    George, try all this and let me know what comes of it.  Also, check the tire for abnormal wear, knots that have popped up from hitting potholes, etc.  Good luck,   Jason
