Ford: Taurus related, ford fuel injection, vapor locks

Question
I know you said your expertise is with Taurus' between 1986
-1995 but I thought i'd ask you anyway. I have a 2000 Taurus
which I purchased preowned with 45k miles. Recently, when we
have a quarter tank of gas left and we are driving up a fairly
steep hill, the low fuel indicator light goes on, fuel gauge points
to empty and the engine begins to stall. Once the car levels out
it runs fine, indicator light goes out and fuel gauge again shows
a quarter tank. Never had this happen under the same situations
with any other car. Any advise?

Answer
This is a fairly common problem with ford fuel injection for some reason the way the tank siphons it vapor locks when the gas goes away from the top front of the tank.  Unfortunely with the gas prices the way they are there is no other way to stop it except to keep your tank above 3/8ths of a tank.  I have both a 1987 Ford Taurus and a 1990 Ford Ranger, they both do it too.  However my 1983 carborated Ford Ranger does not.
