Ford: Brake Lights Wont Turn Off, light fuse, fuse box

Question
Ragu,
I drive a 1998 Ford Escort SE with an automatic transmission.
The car is serviced regularly and is still in excellent condition.
The mileage is about 57,000 miles. The problem is, just recently
the brake lights won't turn or shut off, even with the car not
running or with the keys out. The only way I found to shut the
brake lights off is to pull out the brake light fuse from the under
dash fuse box. By pulling the fuse the brake lights goes off, but
now when I start up the car, I cannot put the automatic
transmission shifter into any gear. The gear shift is locked in the
parking gear and will not budge. Only after replacing the brake
light fuse in it's rightful place, only then can I put the
transmission in all gears. But now the brake lights are once
again constantly on. Could you please let me know if you have
any ideas why this is suddenly happening to my Ford Escort.
Thank you for your time.            JR

Answer
JR  go under the dash were your brake peddle is and if you look up you will see a switch  with 2 wires on it the colors should be green with a red line unplug this and see if your lights go off if they do just replace the switch .. let me know if you need more help .
