I have a 2000 Ford ranger 4.0, 5 speed 4x4 (92000). There are two problems. First, when I get up to about 55mph I start to notice a little vibration coming from the front end but when I turn hard enough to the right, it drives as smooth as can be. I then jacked up the front end to check the wheel bearings. I could feel a little slack. Is it possible to change out those bearings without changing that whole hub assembly? And second, when I was doing  this I noticed that my hubs where engaged and felt extremely warm on both sides even though it was in 2 wheel drive. How do I release my hubs?

Answer -
no you have to take off the hub assy.it is not hard just a pain.do you have auto hubs or manual

-I have auto hubs. The auto parts store said that the hubs and bearings are all one unit. What kind of tools will i need?

Answer
if you buy the complete hub assy you need to rent the hub nut socket when you take off the tork screws out lay it down all in one .then look in with a flash light you will see a  flat slot .there is a little weged you have to pull this out with a small pick or magnet pull this out then use your socket to do the rest once  the first inside nut comes out remove the flat washer then the second nut.that it good luck
