Ford Mustang: Unlock Button Clearing Factory Security System, factory security, ford mustang

Question
QUESTION: I purchased a 98 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Pressing the Unlock button released the factory security system.

The battery was removed for a while, now pressing the Unlock button does not release the factory security system.

How do I program the Unlock button to work again?
ANSWER: What do you mean it "released the factory security system?"

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The security system comes on almost immediately when leaving the car (locked or unlocked).

With the key fob, you press the unlock button and it releases the security system...allows you to start the car.

If the security system is not turned off, you cannot start the car.

Pressing and holding the unlock button did result in the same as the key fob, but is no longer working. If my key fob battery dies, I will not be able to start the car.

Answer
The area I am least experienced in when it comes to cars and Stangs is wiring and electric.  I am not really sure what the problem is and am not really sure how you would fix it.  The only thing I can recommend would be to take it to a local Ford dealer and have the service department flash the security system so it starts responding to the key again.
