GM-GMC: 2005 GMC 1500 truck 4 wheel drive, gmc 1500, odometers

Question
The speedometer on the truck I am looking at is broken.  Someone told me that if the speedometer was not working, the odometer would also not work. Is this correct?

Answer
Difficult to answer that.  If the reason that the speedo does not work is because the little drive motor has malfunctioned than the odomoter will likely still be accurate.  It is possible however that the wire is damaged or open between the PCM and the cluster and that would result in no speedo and no odometer.  No way to tell how many miles on it since it quit.  Take it for a drive.  If the odometer works, don't worry about it too much.  If you drive it and it doesn't, something may be fishy.  It is possible to disable the odometers on those trucks to stop the miles from accumulating.
Hope this helps
