GM-GMC: GMC SAFARII AWD, shaft arrangement, stub axles

Can the awd be taken off, the cv axcles ,front diff,and the drive shaft from the trans to the front diff if all this is taken off so you make it a awd to a 2 wheel drive will it work?

I suppose anything can be done, but whether or not it is worth the hassel is the question.  I am trying to think what type of output shaft arrangement there is on the transfer case.  There would be no major problem removing the front driveshafts.  You would need to put stub axles back into the wheel bearings to maintain the preload.  You can remove the driveshaft from the front diff to the transfer case without much concern at the front, but the transfer case should be sealed up and depending on what year the van is there are different styles.  I think that would be your largest concern, whether the transfer case can be sealed up where the front driveshaft attaches.  I will ask our tranny guy at work and if there is anymore info I will update the post.
