GM-GMC: Part Identification, egr tube, themostat

Question

What part is this?
I'M WORKING ON A 2000 Chevrolet S-10 blazer with a 4.3, V-6. I have water leaking out of a pipe that is connected to the intake manifold, behind the air compressor. The attached picture calls it a EGR recirculation tube? What is the ID of this part, so I can replace it?
Thanks,
Mike.

Answer
Hi Mike, on the right side of the picture that you have attached is the EGR tube.  It's connect at one end to the exhaust manifold and the other end the intake manifold, your EGR valve allows exhaust to pass through at various times.  This pipe should only have exhaust in passing through it.  Never coolant.  The other pipe that comes from the lower intake, which you cannot see on the picture, or only see a portion of is the heater bypass hose.  It comes from just before the themostat on the intake and should go to the firewall and connect to the heater core and allows coolant to flow through the heater core for heat.  This pipe should have coolant in it, depending on the year, some will be a large quick connect fitting and it's not uncommon for them to leak.  Your best bet would be to take your VIN number in to a dealer and have them bring up an exploded view of your cooling system.  You can pin point exactly what part you require, if you don't like the price from the dealer, atleast you will know what part you are looking for and you can shop around.  My guess though is that you are looking for the coolant bypass hose fitting (or nipple). It looks like you are getting fairly deep into it.  It may be a good time to replace the lower intake gaskets, they to are a common failure on that particular engine.  Just remember to mark your distributor so that it can be reinstalled in the same position.
Hope this helps
