GM-GMC: 98 tahoe engine knock, piston slap, chevy tahoe

Question
i have a 98 chevy tahoe it has a constant knocking sound when you turn it on the knocking will go away when the engine warms up,but it kind of takes a while. when i turn it on the oil gauge needle is high it reads close to the 80 point mark. wat can the problem be?, i had a part replaced in the engine not sure wat its called something like liptors but it has about 15 or 16 of them the knocking does not go away

Answer
There are a number of things that can cause cold engine knocking.  Piston slap is common for general motors engines, this is caused by the cylinder bore/piston clearances being excessive causing the piston to 'slap' the cylinder wall, this usually stops when the piston heats up and expands.  Another causes could be your lifter, which you mentioned were already replaced, that noise is usually quicker and higher pitched than piston noise.  Some customers have experimented with different oils and filters with mixed results.
Hope this helps.
