GM-GMC: Tilt steering/column problem GMC Sierra, gmc sierra, high beams

Question
QUESTION: When my column is down my high beams dont work and my wipers dont work on high speed, they work for the rest of the speeds, and when the column is up everything works well.  Could something be pinched?

ANSWER: It is more likely that the wiring is broken inside the sheathing, it makes contact in one position but not the other, not uncommon if the truck is older and the tilt is used frequently.  You'll need to remove the steering wheel etc and see what is going on.
Hope this helps

QUESTION: Its a 2003 GMC Sierra...i was hoping i wouldnt have to take the steering wheel off with the airbag and all my radio controls on the steering wheel.  Is that my only option to take the wheel off to find the wire or can i check on the shaft?

Answer
It will be easier to start looking from underneith for sure.  If you can locate the problem from there perfect.  I would imagine though that you will need to remove the covers from around the steering column.  I believe there is a few screws from the underside. You should be able to remove the cover and get a good look at the wiring.  I have repair wiring in the column and I have always found it easier to remove the wheel and air bag etc etc, it gives you alot more room, but it is more work and you will need to use caution around the airbag.
Pull the covers and have a look.
Hope this helps
