GM-GMC: 2000 GMC Sierra Engine Squeek and Increase in Engine Temp, sierra engine, gmc sierra

Question
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra. While driving down the road I noticed a squeek coming from the engine.  The squeek came and went but happened more frequently as I drove down the road. After driving down the road for about 3 miles, I noticed that the engine temperature started to increase.
I then pulled over and turned the car off.  There was no leaks coming from the radiator.

Answer
The first and easiest thing to check would be your drive belt.  It is possible that something was causing it to slip or the belt itself came off.   This would result in the water pump no longer being driven, causing overheating.  If the belt is intact, remove it and see if you can turn your water pump by hand and feel if it turns smoothly, a worn water pump or a seized pump can cause overheating also.
Hope this helps.
