GM-GMC: Rust Protecting Drive Shafts, drive shaft, painting frames

Question
How do I (without powder coating ,etc.) protect my drive shaft from rust. I have used PB Blaster to remove the excess rust - works Excellent. Is there a type of lanolin or grease to just apply that will resist chemicals ,salts ,etc. that can be buffed to a Non-Sticky finish. The PB Blaster really works at taking off the loose flaking rust-Now I just have to find the best protectant to put over it.I prefer a grease as opposed to paint - but if a Rustproofing paint is necessary - What would be the best for this application. Also for other suspension components that are heavy metal (steel, iron, etc.)?

Answer
You will need to be careful of a couple of things...One is that you don't throw your shaft off balance and two is that you keep things in phase, by that I mean if you have disassembled or removed things they need to be reinstalled or reassembled in the exact same position.  That being said.  Any drive shaft that I have ever painted I have used an oil based tremclad.  Napa has a black tremclad for painting frames that is impact resistant works pretty good.  Reduce it a little bit with thinner and apply a few coats.  As for any other coatings? If you are into salt and poor road conditions, I doubt that you will be able to keep it or any other suspension component looking new.  This may be a better question for a restoration or custom shop.
Hope that helps.
