GM-GMC: Starting when cold., distributer cap, cold question

Question
QUESTION: I have a 64 chevelle with a 194 six cahnged over to HEI ignition. I did a recent tune up on it new cap, plugs, rotor, wirers, fuelfilter.Hopeing this would fix my problem. When it gets to -20c pluged in it will not start. Lots of cranking power but will not fire. When the temp warms up to -10c or warmer it starts right away.I have a manual choke on the car.The carb is a one barrel and is about 2yrs old. Any info would be just great. Thank you.

ANSWER: Usually when you have a no start at colder temps . You usually have a moisture issue , someplace , somewhere , moisture is causing your problem . You can try to spray some hairspray on the wires and distributer cap when you try it again , Try it > will not start then spray ;; then try ..

QUESTION: I live in the dry praires. It will start later in the day when it warms up. Do you think it could be a coil issue? Or is it that a coil  either works or does not work?

Answer
I have seen both . Although it is said that normally . When they go - they go out and that's it . I have had them intermitent as well .

What about the carb ?

Do you check ALL spark plugs for spark . Then check for fuel ?

If you have spark then the coil pack is good . A strong spark ,,
If you have fuel then you have the two needed to get you started ?Right !!!!

The carb ? I have seen floats in carbs cause similar issue.

You can try to use a hairdryer on the coil , not too close . And see if this elimiantes the problem .
