GM-GMC: 95 GMC Burb 6.2 diesel, gm diesels, gm vehicles

Question
First my question, then some history...

1) Could we have an electrical issue?  The vehicle starts and runs fine, however the battery like stays lit and the RPM gauge doesn't register.

2) History - we are the third owners.  Last year the ABS light lit up, we brought it to an electrical place and was told the sensor needed to be replaced.  We brought it to our 'shop' and he replaced the part.  But the light never went off and we do not have ABS.

When starting the vehicle, I notice all the lights dim slightly, then remain bright.  There are times while driving I notice the head/dash lights dim briefly.

We had the entire A/C system replaced last year (front and rear).  We have noticed when it rains we get water inside the vehicle.  It comes out under the dash on the passenger side when the fan starts.

Thanks for your time,
Kathy

Answer
First of all, the 6.2 diesel was not produced after 1993.

Most GM vehicles made in the 1990s have ABS.  How could your "mechanic" replace a part on a system that is not there?

The alternators used in newer GM vehicles will turn themselves off if the battery voltage drops too low.  This is a safety feature to keep them from burning out.

GM diesels are known to have ground cable and battery cable issues.  That is where the problem likely is.

If you did not have rain inside the vehicle before the A/C system was replaced, then the shop that did the work caused the problem.  Let them fix it.
