GM-GMC: 2000 Buick Regal LS, cv joints, high beams

Question
I have a 2000 Buick Regal LS (3.8 non-super charger) with 120000+ mls.

1. The drivers side window (front left) will not go down. Each of the other three windows go up and down just fine.

2. Same Car. When I attempt to use the high beam signal, it does not "click" and stay in the on position. The high beams do comes on but does not stay on, unless I hold the stalk back.

3. Same Car. The heat/defrost blower only works in the "high" position.

4. What do I need to do to fix these issues and can I do any of them my self. I can do basic work (oil change, CV Joints, Brakes, etc.).

5. Also, what part and labor costs should I expect.

Please advise.

Thank You.

Thank You.

Answer
1. Either the switch or the window lift motor is bad.

2. The high beam headlight switch is bad.  Replacement involves removing the steering wheel and airbag and should NOT be attempted unless you know what you are doing around airbag equipment.

3. GM used to use a resistor element, located near the blower motor, to provide different fan speeds.  I do not know if they still do so.  The problem might also be the blower switch.

4. Answer is that your questions about #1 and #3 may be repairs you can attempt.

5. The headlight switch is probably a dealer item only.  It will be expensive and labor will be $60 an hour or more.  The window motor and/or switch, and the blower resistor and/or switch can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
