GM-GMC: Differential Help, limited slip differential, chevy silverado

Question
Can a standard differential have parts added to it to make it a limited slip differential?
If so, are the parts readily available?

This is a 2002 Chevy Silverado LS with a 4.8 litre engine with an automatic transmission.

Answer
No, the spider gears in the differential have to changed to obtain limited slip function.

The ring and pinion gear can be, and generally are, reused.

The inner axle bearings and shims, on semi-floating rear axles, are also usually changed when converting to limited slip.

This is a job for experts because setting the backlash on the ring and pinion requires special effort.

The cheapest way to convert to limited slip is to find a good axle in a salvage yard and remove and replace the one in the vehicle.
