GM-GMC: Brakes, buick skylark, power brake booster

Question
('92 Buick Skylark)I believe I have a brake fluid leak. I had to fill
my brake fluid about 4 weeks ago, and again today(9-12-05). How do I
dertmine the leak, and how would it be fixed. I would like to try and
fix it on own if possible, to save money

Answer
The leak can occur anywhere from the master cylinder to the rear wheel cylinders.

Most common points of leakage are the rear wheel cylinders and the master cylinder push rod.

Rear wheel cylinder leaks can be found by removing the rear wheel and checking the dust seals, on each on of the wheel cylinder, for signs of brake fluid.  In some cases, the fluid leaks badly enough to contaminate the brake shoes.

The master cylinder push rod goes from the top of the brake pedal through the firewall and into the master cylinder.  Brake fluid can leak into the vacuum power brake booster or sometimes into the vehicle and soak the carpet.

Less likely points of leakage include the stee tubes carrying the brake fluid to the wheel, the front brake hoses, and/or any fittings connected to the lines.
